Custom Landscaping in Hinsdale, IL
Custom Outdoor Living, Designed and Built for Hinsdale Homes
LANDSCAPING BUILT FOR ESTABLISHED Hinsdale LOTS
Hinsdale landscaping is a preservation problem as much as a design problem. The village is built under a mature oak and elm canopy, on rolling ground that gives the “dale” its name, and a large share of the lots are active teardown-and-rebuild sites. Since 1985 we have designed and built custom landscapes across DuPage County, and Hinsdale is one of the communities where getting the groundwork right matters most.
CB Conlin Landscapes is a Naperville-based landscape company, about ten miles west, and we have worked Hinsdale yards for decades. We are not a mow-and-go crew. Every project starts with a licensed landscape architect and ends with a space built to last on a property where the landscaping is a serious part of the home’s value.
LANDSCAPING SERVICES WE PROVIDE IN Hinsdale
We handle a project from first drawing to final planting so you are not managing separate trades against each other. Hinsdale homeowners come to us for four connected categories of work.
CUSTOM LANDSCAPE DESIGN
Design carries most of the value, especially on a Hinsdale lot where a new build and a century-old tree have to share the same ground. Barry Conlin is a Licensed Professional Landscape Architect, and our designers read the house, the grade, and the existing canopy before committing to a plan. You can follow our step-by-step design process from the first walk-through to a finished presentation.
HARDSCAPING & OUTDOOR LIVING
Patios, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, seating walls, and covered lounges are what most Hinsdale clients are after, and the village’s larger, established lots have the room to do them well. We build in natural stone and high-end pavers, and we detail hardscape to sit correctly around protected root zones rather than through them.
POOLSCAPES & FIRE FEATURES
Hinsdale is a strong pool market, and a pool is only as good as the environment around it. We integrate pools, spas, fire pits, and fireplaces into one plan so the finished poolscape reads as part of the house, not an add-on dropped into the back of the yard.
LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE
Our residential maintenance division protects that investment year-round, from seasonal color to snow. On mature Hinsdale properties it also means informed care for established trees and beds that a rotating crew would miss.
WHY HInsdale YARDS CALL FOR A TAILORED APPROACH
Hinsdale’s tree canopy is its defining feature and its central constraint. The village enforces a tree-preservation ordinance, and much of the town sits within historic and architectural review districts, so what you can build and how close you can build it to a regulated oak is not a free choice. The ground rolls more than most of DuPage, Salt Creek and the Fullersburg Woods corridor drive local drainage, and the soil is heavy clay laced with decades of mature root systems. We are in USDA hardiness zone 5b. On a rebuild lot, add the compaction and grade changes that heavy construction equipment leaves behind, and the site conditions get complicated fast.
Field Note From Our Crews
On Hinsdale rebuild sites, the trees that survive construction are the ones with a protection plan written before the first excavator arrives. We observed the pattern on corrective jobs we were brought in to fix: grade raised over a root flare or a trench cut through a critical root zone during the build, and a signature oak in decline two summers later. We set tree protection fencing and drainage before install, and we design finished grade to keep root flares where the tree needs them.
How To Approach Your Hinsdale Project
The right first move depends on where your property is in its life cycle:
- If you are building new or tearing down, then bring landscape design in alongside the architect, before construction, so tree protection and drainage are set from the start.
- If you own an established estate with a mature canopy, then plan a phased renovation that works around protected trees rather than a single disruptive rebuild of the yard.
- If a pool or outdoor kitchen is the goal, then design it into the whole plan up front so it clears the ordinance and fits the grade instead of fighting both.
DESIGN-BUILD VS. PIECEMEAL CONTRACTORS
On a high-value Hinsdale property the real decision is not which plants to choose. It is whether to hire one accountable design-build firm or assemble the project from separate trades who each answer only for their own piece.
| Factor | Design-Build (Our Model) | Piecemeal Contractors |
|---|---|---|
| Accountability | One firm owns design through install | Blame shifts between trades |
| Budget | Priced against a complete plan | Costs creep as scope changes |
| Design Quality | Landscape architect led | Varies by whoever bids |
| Timeline | Scheduled as one project | Gaps between contractors |
OUR LOCAL TRACK RECORD IN HINSDALE
We prefer to show rather than tell. Our portfolio of custom landscapes spans Hinsdale alongside Naperville, Glen Ellyn, and Downers Grove, and it is the clearest picture of how we handle poolscapes, outdoor kitchens, and full backyard designs on established western-suburb lots. Much of our Hinsdale work comes by referral from finished projects nearby.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Straight answers to the questions Hinsdale homeowners ask us most.
How Much Does Landscaping Cost In Hinsdale?
Every Hinsdale project is priced against a finished design rather than an hourly rate, because scope, materials, tree-protection requirements, and site conditions vary widely from one lot to the next. A design consultation gives you a realistic range for your property.
Do You Handle Hinsdale Permits And The Tree Ordinance?
Yes. We prepare and submit the documents the Village of Hinsdale requires and design to the village's permitting, stormwater, and tree-preservation rules from the start, including protection plans for regulated trees.
